Henley on Thames in South Oxfordshire was first recorded in 1179. Like Oxford it is renowned for its world class rowing, in particular the regatta held in the summer.

The Henley Royal regatta attracts both rowing enthusiasts and the general public for its social events. Henley itself also has a market held every Thursday since 1269 and the River and rowing museum that was opened by Queen Elizabeth the second in 1998. Not far from Henley is Shiplake, the home to a prestigious school.

Also on the Thames is the market town of Marlow listed as Merlaue in the Domesday book. This popular town boasts a very distinctive bridge. The bridge was opened in 1832 and provides a link to Bisham, a village famous for its Abbey and the National Sports Centre.
