Having trouble opening and closing doors and windows? We can send a locksmith to your door at a time to suit you and get your windows and doors opening, closing and locking smoothly. There are a number of issues that may need addressing depending on the type of door, and a number of solutions avalable.

Timber doors and windows

Filling (excluding painting)

Using two part high performance filler we repair dents, scratches and holes in wooden doors and windows. The filler repels water and can be sanded, painted and varnished. Please note the assigned locksmith does not carry out painting as part of this service.

Hinge adjustments

If your door has swelled or dropped Abbey Gate will remove and refit your door allowing it to close properly without hitting the frame. If required the door can also have shaved (planed). This reduces the size of the door by a few millimetres allowing it to fit perfectly in the frame.

Please note after planing it is advised to treat or paint the wood.

Keep adjustment

The keep is non mechanical part of the lock located in the frame, that accepts the lock on the door. If required we can move the keep to allow the door to lock perfectly. This is normally done because the frame or door has swelled or shrank according to weather conditions. It is advised to keep your wooden door or window treated/painted to help repel water.

Glass, letter box and ironmongery replacement

Abbey Gate replace glass and all forms of door ironmongery including letter boxes, door knockers, knobs and handles. Door furniture is available in all finishes including brass and chrome.

Closers

Should the door have a door closer this can be adjusted to close faster or slower. By adjusting the “latching speed” we can also make the door close and lock quieter. All types of door closers can be replaced.

UVPC repairs

The locksmith assigned to you carries a professional kit to repair scratches and dents on plastic windows and doors. The finishes include white, Oak and Mahogany.

Keep adjustments

Like timber, UVPC can move depending on temperature. If this happens the keeps for multi point locks may need adjustments to keep the operation smooth. This also helps prolong the life of the locking mechanism because less pressure is put on the lock when locking.

Hinge realignment

Worn out hinges can be replaced for all UVPC doors and windows (friction hinges).

Glass replacement

Broken glass can be replaced with a wide range of styles to chose from.

Door furniture replacement

Handles and other furniture including letter boxes can be replaced. Should the handle on your door feel lose with a lot of “play “ (oftern discribed as floppy) this is ether a sign of a worn lock or handle and further investgation by our locksmith is certanly required

Closers and adjustments

Today the vast majority of Aluminium doors are located in shops and commercial buildings. Most of these use a hidden Transom closer located in the frame. In order to replace Transom closers on aluminium doors the door has to be removed and refitted by a specialist such as Abbey Gate.
