Safer Streets Fund

The Thames Valley Police and Hampshire Constabulary will both be bidding for grants of £550,000 as part of the Safer Streets Fund to fight Acquisitive crime, the types of crime that are most likely to affect the public.

The fund is aimed at tackling burglary, robbery and vehicle crime. Steps include changing road and pavement designs, CCTV, external locks on key structures (for example fencing) and security engineering solutions. This type of crime costs billions of pounds each year.

The money can also be used to train community wardens and commence Neighbourhood Watch schemes. Studies suggest removing opportunities to commit crime and increasing the likelihood of being caught does prevent crime.

Abbey Gate and other Master Locksmith Association members have a long standing relationship with the Neighbourhood Watch scheme and we fully support this latest effort to reduce crime in the Thames and Loddon Valleys.
