Our digital journey

Social media

Abbey Gate has been active on Social media since 2003 when the original Facebook page was created to coincide with the formation of our proud business. Today we have 6 different media accounts with over 2500 followers. So how has our relationship with social media developed over time?

Our Twitter page is our oldest existing media account. During the early years the account proved to be one of the most important. The page reported everything from digging holes for under floor safes to the restoration of 200 year old doors. With the success of Instagram the page became less important for the front line business and took a back seat, until now. Today it’s making a comeback as a way of advertising our free museum internationally.

Afew weeks following the launch of Twitter our original Facebook page was replaced. The facebook page has always been used to offer insight into our local locksmith service in Reading. The page is also used to promote local events outside our industry.

Our instagram page is by far our most successful. It was originally created to display photos of our work, our vans and completed jobs. The page also became a platform to share images of our antique lock and safe collection. However the page soon became more.

Our staff are like family to us and the page began to showcase interests our staff have away from work including some of Alexander’s British American football collection. It also shared events our staff have been involved with including a trip up Ben Nevis in Scotland as part of a Scottish road trip.

For years our director Stephen Underwood had a personal LinkedIn account. In early April we added a business account to help our contract customers and partners access and communicate with us on another platform.

AGL TV first aired on the 8th March 2019. To begin with the channel has been used to highlight videos of our works however we want it to go further.

From 2021 we hope to share videos and stories of local interest away from our front line business. The site will also be used as a security advice platform.

Our newest platform is Pinterest. With Pinterest it is hoped it can run in a similar way to Instergram.
